Project-Based Learning

WNCS promotes hands-on, project-based learning in all subjects and all grades. Children are actively involved in manipulating materials, applying their knowledge, and seeing the results. This is proven to be the best way to engage their affections and foster long-term retention of concepts, allowing children to learn directly from their experience.

Making Meals

Every year, each class chooses a day to provide lunch for the whole school. This teaches them age-appropriate lessons about planning, cooking, and for the older kids, budgeting and shopping!

PE & Active Playtime

Students learn to be active by playing many lifelong sports. Each student has 3 periods per week of PE along with 2 break times each day for free play.

Building Machines

5th and 6th graders experience simple machines first-hand by creating their own!

7th and 8th graders gain useful experience in Life Skills class, where they build practical knowledge that will help them in their life now and as adults.

We love using our large outdoor spaces. The school has many acres of woodland and wetlands threaded with nature trails. The affection through which children experience the natural world provides fertile ground from which intellectual concepts can grow.

We have Project Days every year before Thanksgiving, where the whole school does projects and activities related to our annual school theme.
