Project-Based Learning

Hands-on learning allows children to learn directly from their experience. They are actively involved in manipulating materials, applying their knowledge, and seeing the results. This type of learning engages the affections and fosters long-term retention of concepts.

WNCS promotes hands-on, project-based learning in all subjects and all grades. It is proven to be the best way children learn.

Making Meals

Every year, each class chooses a day to provide lunch for the whole school. This teaches them age-appropriate lessons about planning, cooking, and for the older kids, budgeting and shopping!

PE & Active Playtime

Students learn to be active by playing many lifelong sports. Each student has 3 periods per week of PE along with 2 break times each day for free play.

Building Machines

5th and 6th graders experience simple machines first-hand by creating their own!

7th and 8th graders make unique creations from wood in workshop every year. This practical life skill will empower their creativity and self-sufficiency throughout their lives.

We love using our large outdoor spaces. The school has access to many acres of woodland and wetlands as well as several nature trails.

Every year before Thanksgiving we have Project Days, where the whole school does projects and activities related to our school theme.
