Meet the Faculty & Staff

The staff works diligently each day to prepare a rich educational program tailored to the developmental needs and interests of our students.

Principal, Assistant Pastor, Religion Teacher

Rev. Howard A. Thompson:  Mr. Thompson joined Washington New Church School as Principal in 2026. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, he teaches religion to fifth- and sixth-grade students, teaches physical education, leads weekly school chapel services, and serves Washington New Church as assistant pastor.

Before entering the ministry, Mr. Thompson spent two decades providing risk-management services to independent schools and colleges throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. His appreciation for schools, and for the important role they play in the lives of children and families, has been a consistent thread throughout his career.

Mr. Thompson earned his Master of Divinity from the Bryn Athyn College Theological School in 2011. He subsequently managed enrollment and taught fourth-grade religion at Bryn Athyn Church School before accepting a call to serve the Church abroad. His international ministry included nearly 15 years of service in the United Kingdom and Australia. These years gave him a keen awareness of the many ways the Lord accommodates His message to reach people wherever they are.

Outside of school and church, Mr. Thompson enjoys staying active as a CrossFit athlete and coach. He can also frequently be seen walking his Spanish Water Dogs, Masha and Marco, around their neighborhood.

Pastor, Religion Teacher

Rev. Glenn "Mac" Frazier:  Mr. Frazier earned his MDiv from the Academy of the New Church Theological School in 2006 and became the senior pastor at the Washington New Church in 2019. His previous roles include serving as Associate Pastor at the Glenview New Church, Founding Pastor of New Way Church in Austin, Texas, Assistant Pastor at Bryn Athyn New Church and Assistant to the Pastor of the Pittsburgh New Church. Prior to his career in the ministry Mac was an executive at Refinery, Inc. an industry leading internet technology firm he co-founded in 1994 and sold in 2007. In his spare time he enjoys playing ice hockey, playing a wide variety of musical instruments, pursues the art of smoking barbecue, plays games of all kinds and is a voracious reader.

Church and School Office Manager

Bonnie Cowley:  Mrs. Cowley moved to Maryland from Texas in 1987 and immediately enrolled her children at WNCS. A few years later she became the church and school secretary and has been the "face" of WNCS ever since.  She loves being around the children and staff, helping out where she can.  She enjoys getting to know the parents of the students and encourages them to visit the school and be part of their children's education.

Kindergarten & Pre-K
Candy Quintero:  Mrs. Q joined the WNCS Faculty as the Pre-K/Kindergarten teacher in 2009 and her 40 years of teaching have included 1st grade, art, helping home-schooled students, and leading educational programs on a farm. She has a B.S. in education from Bryn Athyn College and a Masters in Religious Studies from the Bryn Athyn College Theological School.  As a Senior Teacher in the General Church school system, she visits our other schools to mentor apprentice and career level teachers and helps develop curriculum.

First & Second Grade

Jana Sprinkle:  Jana Sprinkle has returned to the faculty full time after a two-year hiatus working at Mary's Land Farm and is now teaching the first and second grades. Jana is a former graduate of WNCS and can't imagine teaching anywhere else. She has taught for 25 years and has been a homeroom teacher for every classroom from Pre-Kindergarten through 11th grade, as well as spending several years as a "floater." Her current assignment is her favorite (as has been every homeroom assignment she has had).

Jana has a B.A. in English from the University of Maryland and has continued to take post graduate courses in core subjects and teaching. Because Jana loves nature, gardening and the outdoors in general, she has started SprinkleBerry Farm & Education Center to help children reconnect with nature and learn how to grow their own food. Students in her class enjoy regular trips to the farm, just a short walk from the school, to release the chickens, collect eggs, plant vegetables, and interact with the goats. Once retired, she is hoping to include more children in the activities of the farm.

Third & Fourth Grade

Anne Ball:  In 1994, Mrs. Ball's love of children led her to volunteering and substitute teaching at WNCS.  She was hired full-time in 2005 as the homeroom teacher for the 3rd and 4th grades.  She has also taught high school history and French, and was the WNCS high school homeroom teacher for several years.  Anne obtained a BA in history from the University of Chicago. She has continued to take postgraduate courses in teaching and in core subject material. Anne and her husband have four grown children, all of whom attended WNCS from kindergarten through 10th grade. They also enjoy spending time with their two grandchildren.

Fifth & Sixth Grade

Jordan Brunne (Broo-n):  Miss Brunne joined the WNCS team in the fall of 2022. Despite being a true blue Auzzie from Australia, Miss Brunne received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in Pennsylvania from Bryn Athyn College of the New Church. Prior to her adventure in the U.S., Miss Brunne had her first encounter as a teacher when she ran a musical theatre class for kids at the Mousetrap Theatre in Redcliffe, Brisbane. Miss Jordan loves art, creativity, and science, and she hopes her passion for these subjects will inspire her students to be curious and explore these fields during their education.

Seventh & Eighth Grade, Music

Ariel Martin:  Miss Ariel came to WNCS in the summer of 2021, and has loved her time as music teacher, 7th and 8th grade homeroom teacher, and more recently as part-time church music director. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Temple University, and she especially loves drawing the church and school community together through music. Ariel’s teaching philosophy centers around nurturing the whole child in his or her physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual growth, and she loves working with the curiosity, humor, and developing morality that her older students display.

"Floater," Many Grades

Joram Heinrichs:  Mr. Joram joined the WNCS faculty in the fall of 2024. He received an education at the Bryn Athyn New Church College in Education and Religion. He now teaches many grades across various subjects such as Math, PE, Art, Typing, History, and Geography.

Math

Carole Waelchli:  Mrs. Waelchli earned her BS in Secondary Education and her Master of Science in Education from Pennsylvania State University, with a specialty in mathematics.  She spent her first 4 years teaching in the public high school system in PA, then transitioned to WNCS in 1972.  “Who’s Who among American Teachers” listed Mrs. Waelchli as an exemplary teacher in 2005-2006 and 2006-2007.  Though partially retiring in 2015/16, she has graciously agreed to continue to teach upper grades mathematics and assist with the music program.

Art, Language Arts

Erin Stillman:  Mrs. Stillman has a BS in Education from Bryn Athyn College, 1984, 10 years experience as a combined grade primary teacher, and currently serves as a volunteer teacher and mentor. She developed our art curriculum based on three principles: 1) Fine motor and aesthetic skill development, 2) Projects integrated with each homeroom, and  3) The belief that because the LORD creates, we are creative.

Substitute, Volunteer

Sharon Kunkle:  Mrs. Kunkle has been a volunteer and substitute from 1994 to present. She loves sports and enjoys providing support for New Church elementary education at our school.

Librarian

Amanda Hyatt:  Mrs. Hyatt has volunteered in the library since 2015. At home she enjoys cooking, sewing, crafting, and doing puzzles with her husband, Brent, who is a WNCS alumnus. Their four children are also WNCS alumni.

Librarian

Gillian Frazier:  Mrs. Frazier has been volunteering in the library and substitute teaching in the school since 2020. She is a mother of four, and her two youngest are alumni of WNCS. She enjoys helping students find books that match with their interests. In her spare time she also enjoys baking and gardening.

IT, Facilities Manager

William Kunkle:  Mr. Kunkle has been a member of the Washington New Church since 1982 and has served as Treasurer and member of the local church’s Board of Trustees. He retired as a senior executive with the U.S. Federal Government in 2000 after more than 37 years of service. William and Sharon’s two children are alumni of WNCS. Currently, he volunteers almost full-time as the school’s IT Administrator, Audio/Video Technician, and "Jack-Of-All-Trades." In his spare time, he enjoys woodworking, traveling, reading to the Kindergarten, and being a grandfather.
