All education is about preparing for life – but what life? At the Washington New Church School our ultimate goal is to guide each child to an eternal, useful life in heaven. All worldly learning is a means to that end.

Founded in 1970, our school seeks to establish a family environment where parents and teachers communicate often and students feel safe and welcome. We serve students from Pre-K through 8th Grade, with special attention to the developmental states of each age group and individual child. Our mission is to support parents in nurturing the spiritual, moral, and intellectual development of their children through New Church education.

Spiritual and moral principles form the foundation of all that we do, permeating every academic subject and informing teacher-student interactions.  The entire curriculum is developed and sustained by principles drawn from the New Christian faith set forth in the religious writings of Emanuel Swedenborg.  Religious instruction is at the heart of each day, beginning with morning worship and including routine references to the Lord and His Providence throughout the day.

Our faculty members take a personal interest in every child.  Small classes meet in multi-grade classrooms, which encourages co-operation and helps students develop a high degree of self-confidence as they learn to think for themselves. We teach students to lead themselves based on principles drawn from the Word, and thereby be useful, upright contributors to society.
